Startup Weekend Louisville Keynote Speaker, Mentors, Judges
All-Star Team Will Help Startups Make Rapid Progress
Startup Weekend Louisville returns on September 19 – 21 at Velocity Indiana in Jeffersonville, and once again experts from the Louisville entrepreneurial community will offer their support. Startup Weekend Louisville is a 54-hour event where teams of entrepreneurs compete to develop, prototype and validate a new business idea. As they work, experienced mentors from the community are available to provide critical feedback. By Sunday night the teams must present their work to a panel of judges consisting of experienced entrepreneurs. The rapid-fire process kicks off on Friday night, with a keynote speaker followed by dozens of startup ideas pitched by the participants.
The keynote speaker on Friday evening, September 19th will be Joshua Rosenthal, Chief Scientific Officer and Co-founder of RowdMap, a Louisville company that provides a web-based competitive intelligence platform for the healthcare industry. On Saturday and Sunday a number of mentors will work with the Startup Weekend Louisville teams, including:
• Stacy Griggs – CEO, El Toro
• Mark Midland – CEO and Co-founder, Horse Racing Nation
• Bob Saunders – Managing Director, Saunders Capital
• Brian Wallace – President and Founder, NowSourcing, Inc
• Doug Whyte – President, J.D. Whyte
The weekend goes by quickly, and by Sunday afternoon the startups teams are preparing their final presentations to the judges. Each team has five minutes to make their case, and another five minutes to field questions about an idea that was born just two days earlier. The judges for this Startup Weekend Louisville are:
• Kevin Nolan – VP of Technology, GE Home & Business Solutions
• Galen Powers – President, Optical Dynamics
• Vidya Ravichandran – President, GlowTouch Technologies
• Andrew Takami – Director, Purdue University College of Technology, New Albany
• Taylor Trusty – CEO, Blackstone Media
All of the judges, mentors, organizers and speakers volunteer their time to make Startup Weekend Louisville a success. The event is also supported by a number of local sponsors who contribute money, goods and services to make it possible.
Support for Makers
Previous Startup Weekends have included teams that developed new manufactured goods, food items and electronics. During the September event, teams that need access to tools will be able to take advantage of the LVL1 hackerspace at their new facility, and the new FirstBuild facility. The Louisville Mini Maker Faire will be held on the weekend immediately after Startup Weekend Louisville.
