Velocity will host Louisville’s Fourth Startup Weekend

Louisville, KY— January 20, 2014During the weekend of  February 28 through March 2, Startup Weekend Louisville will connect local entrepreneurs, developers, designers and startup enthusiasts with the resources and mentors to help them jumpstart their business ideas. Velocity, a regional organization in Jeffersonville focused on entrepreneurial education and programs, will host Startup Weekend Louisville. Throughout the course of this 54-hour event attendees will share business ideas, form teams and develop the ideas into startups.

How Startup Weekend Works

On Friday night attendees with new, undeveloped business ideas can make a 60-second pitch to the audience. After choosing the most popular ideas through a voting process, teams form organically around them. Then it’s a frenzy of business model creation, market validation with customers, and building a minimally viable product. Entrepreneurial leaders from the community offer support and critical feedback on Saturday and Sunday, and on Sunday evening each team presents to a panel of judges who select the winning startup. Startup Weekend includes meals and snacks for participants, helping to foster the startup experience.

Local sponsors make Startup Weekend Louisville possible, and the organizers, mentors and judges are all volunteers. Tony Schy, Managing Director at Velocity said, “Velocity was created to foster entrepreneurship in the Louisville area and across southern Indiana. We operate two accelerator programs for startups each year, along with a number of other activities for the entrepreneurial community. So, Startup Weekend is a natural fit for us.” After Startup Weekend, Velocity has also agreed to host a Startup Weekend NEXT program, which helps Startup Weekend teams continue development of their startup ideas. Velocity is located just across the Clark Memorial (2nd Street) bridge from Louisville, at 400 Missouri Ave in Jeffersonville, IN. For more information about Velocity, see
